Ciminelli Wins First PBA Title at Dublin's Earl Anthony Memorial
The 24-year-old New Yorker beat Patrick Allen in the championship to win.
In an event that pays tribute to the most famous left-handed bowler of all time, it was only fitting the championship match of the PBA One a Day Earl Anthony Memorial Classic came down to a pair of lefties — Ryan Ciminelli and Patrick Allen.
Ciminelli, a 24-year-old from Cheektowaga, N.Y., got out to a hot start and cruised to his first PBA title, defeating Allen 237-215 at Earl Anthony's Dublin Bowl.
"I've been bowling since I was four years old," Ciminelli said. "So this was 21 years in the making."
ESPN2 carried Sunday's three matches lives. Allen got to the final by defeating Tommy Jones 226-223, then Hall of Famer Pete Weber 212-206.
Both bowlers had rave reviews for the job the city of Dublin and Earl Anthony's Dublin Bowl did in hosting the touranment.
"The people (are what make the event great)," Allen said. "The weather is great and obviously Susie Anthony and and Ted Hoffman are great hosts. There is great food to eat every day and we really appreciate that. It's the little things that make this event what it is and I can speak on behalf of everyone for that."
Even on a day where it was raining, Ciminelli also noted the weather as a reason he likes coming to the Tri-Valley.
"I have to get on a flight tomorrow and go back home (to New York) where it's in single digits," he said. "The people here are great too."
Hoffman, who is has been the managing partner at the Dublin center since 1984, was called the best proprietor in the country by PBA Commissioner Fred Scheyer in a post-tournament awards ceremony.
