IRS: Livermore Woman Says She Had 19 Kids on Fake Tax Returns
Defendant claimed 19 dependents had been born to her, all on the same day.
A Livermore woman claimed she had 19 children — all born on the same day — in a tax fraud case, according to the Internal Revenue Service.
Norma Coronel, 40, a former Los Angeles resident, was arraigned Monday in a U.S District Court on a 35-count indictment filed by prosecutors earlier this year.
She's accused of filing tax returns in the names of third parties including false dependents. The counts against her include the preparation of false tax returns, fraudulently using Social Security numbers obtained on the basis of false information and theft of government property.
According to documents filed with the court, the government determined from Social Security Administration records that Coronel had obtained fraudulent Social Security numbers for at least 19 children.
Coronel claimed, on separate applications, that the children had been born to her at Good Samaritan Hospital on Dec. 11, 2002.
According to the hospital's records, Coronel gave birth to a single child, a son, on that day.
Coronel, who had been living in Los Angeles at the time the fraudulent returns were filed, was arrested in Livermore on July 12 and as of Monday remained in custody.
If convicted of all of the charges against her, Coronel faces a statutory maximum 143 years in federal prison and fines totaling $5.6 million.
The investigation and prosecution of Coronel was conducted by IRS - Criminal Investigation, the Treasury Department's Office of Inspector General for Tax Administration, and the Social Security Administration-Office of the Inspector General, in conjunction with the Tax Division of the United States Attorney's Office in Los Angeles.

If these mere allegations turn out to be true after having been proven beyond reasonable doubt in a court of law then, yes, I would agree that she did a very dumb thing.

Only in America, land of the free , home of the brave. To bad the Oprah show canceled out , see would have make a great guest. Far more kids than John & Kate plus eight, or the Octomom, Nadya Sulman. 19 kids in one day, wow thats got to be the most ignorant lie of the decade, but she did get away with it for a period of time. The IRS agent should get a raise for figuring out 19 in one day might be a lie.

Must be a tea party member, in wisconsin most of the tea party candidates had to pay back taxes before they could run for office. Tea party =tax cheat=terrorist=home grown taliban. She probably has voting cards for all the kids as well.

You may be right about the Lady Accused Tax Cheat, but if you are proposing that we assign moral equivalecy to the nonviolent Tea Party Movement and the confused, fear based response of fundamentalist violent jihad of Islam, you fail to appreciate the rigor of protection to your own liberties and your own freedoms democratically and peacefully projected by the Tea Part Movement. Before it's over you may well come to appreciate the impotence of their nonviolence. It never seems to be Tea Party members that send in the thugs to start the violence and subvert peaceful assembly and protest.

Also, to call Tea Partiers terrorists is really defining terrorism down. If wanting to cut government spending and a balanced budget is terrorism, them I guess I'm a terrorist too.

Now she has to be bathed, fed, gets free medical care. Guards cost money, it costs money to maintain the jail. It cost money to haul her to court- stand before the judge. If she does come out before the expiration of her jail term, she'll be on welfare and that will cost money. There are less expensive ways to deal with people like her - use them.

Now she's going to jail for 140+ years, who's going to take care of her when she gets out, she'll be 200 years old. Then the state will have to pay for her to go into elder care. Don't even get me started about the burden of welfare costs for the 19 children that she will leave motherless. It's a sad state of affairs.

Don't despair too much michelle! most but not all 200 year released felons rarely ever re-offend. Anecdotal evidence is sketchy but I'm fairly sure we won't have to worry about her anymore. But for her kids well that will remain to be seen.

We sent our tax attorney this article for his educated input and after reading the blog headline: "Livermore Woman Says She Had 19 Kids On Fake Tax Returns" he said there's a good case here to sue IRS for failure to clearly post warnings that faking it on tax returns can lead to unwanted pregnancies. ........ bada boom.
