Sprouts & Shutters: Cupcakes, Smoothies and Domus is Back

Here's the latest roundup of retail, restaurant and other business news in the Tri-Valley area.

Wonder what’s moving into your neighborhood shopping center? Our biweekly Sprouts & Shutters column highlights the latest Tri-Valley restaurant, retail and other business news.

Danville’s gluten-free bakery on San Ramon Valley Boulevard, is expanding, taking over Health World Spa’s old space next door. Miglet’s new retail section will feature gluten-free frozen bread items and to-go meals such as gluten-free pasta salads and sandwiches. Miglet’s owner hopes to complete the expansion by the end of July.

Looking for a new pair of jeans? SXE Apparel, which specializes in imported South American “butt lift” jeans, opened June 28 in the Danville Livery, next to Games Unlimited. You can see samples of SXE Apparel’s fashions, including tops designed by the store’s owner, Jessie Valverde, at ww.sxeapparel.com

Two downtown Danville stores will be closing soon:  closes in August and is running a “lost our lease” inventory sale through mid-August.  leaves July 29 (read more in Patch’s . Both businesses are in the historic Danville Hotel, slated for demolition and redevelopment (see Patch’s ).

Opening update: A Sweet Affair Bakery, covered , opened on Hartz Avenue on July 12.


Sports Gallery Authenticated opened in early July on San Ramon Valley Boulevard in Wallbeds N Mores’s old spot in San Ramon. The store, which focuses on sports memorabilia retail, custom display solutions, athlete autograph events and fundraising opportunities, moved to San Ramon after closing its Walnut Creek store at the end of June.

A new salon called Lovely Nails & Spa will open soon on San Ramon Valley Boulevard next to San Ramon’s new  (reported in ).

Sky River RV will celebrate the grand opening of its Dublin location on Aug. 6. The dealership, opening on Golden Gate Drive near Outback Steakhouse, will feature more than two acres of indoor showroom plus sales, service, consignment and storage of recreational vehicles.

An Indian restaurant called Tandoori Hut opened in June next to Taqueria Los Periocos on Village Parkway. The casual eatery, which replaced Tadoori Bite, offers more than 10 appetizers, including several Pakora options, plus Tandoori wraps and vegetarian and meat entrees such as Malai Kofta (vegetarian dumplings) and Fish Tikka Masala.

A new takeout café, Juice & Java Express, is set to open in September on West Angela Street in Stork’s Nest’s old space. Owner Angela Aloise says her café will serve organic fruit smoothies, freshly squeezed juices, organic fair-trade coffee and tea plus salads, sandwiches and pastries (including gluten-free options). 

Alma’s Mexican Grill opened on Main Street on July 1, replacing Emilio’s Mexican Restaurant. The full-service family-owned eatery focuses on authentic Mexican cuisine, serving a variety of enchiladas and burritos, chicken and shrimp platters. 

Opening update: Downtown Pleasanton’s home accessories store  reopened July 7, moving back to the space it vacated in 2008.  in our May Sprouts.

Winemaker’s Pour House, a restaurant focusing exclusively on Livermore Valley wineries, will open this fall on First Street next to Demitri's Taverna. Co-owner Kelly McFarland says the small menu will fluctuate to complement the featured wines, so you may dine on Asian cuisine one month and Southwest dishes the next. The owners hope to open their “elegant but comfortable” restaurant the first week of September.

Yogurt Deluxe opened on Portola Avenue near Lucky’s in May. The frozen yogurt shop, which replaced Golden Spoon Frozen Yogurt, features 12 rotating flavors such as angel food cake and cinnamon plus 40 toppings.
