Community Update

The Alameda
County Fair is ready to come roaring into town and that means it is time for
live horse racing in Pleasanton.

There will
be 12 days of live racing (Thursday-Sunday in each of the three weeks) this
with the daily post time at 1:15 p.m. The racing dates are June 20-23; June
27-30; and July 4-7.

Highlighting
the racing action this year is another solid stakes card, including the debut
of the $75,000 Casual Lies on Thursday July 4.
Casual Lies was a Pleasanton trained horse that made a national splash
in the 1992 Triple Crown, finishing second in the Kentucky Derby, third in the
Preakness and fifth in the Belmont Stakes.

Casual Lies
was owned and trained by Pleasanton’s Shelley Riley, who to this day has the
highest finish by a female trainer in the Kentucky Derby. Riley recently
released a book on Casual Lies and will be on hand on July 4 to autograph
copies of her book, meet with racing fans and present the winner’s plate for
the stakes race.

Back this
year is the $30,000 Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Cup, a special Arabian
Stakes races. New this year for the Arabians is the Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak
Ladies World Championship, a $25,000 lady’s amateur jockey race. There will be
12 lady riders coming from countries around the world for the special race.
These two races are sponsored by the H.H. Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan
Global Arabian Horse Flat Racing Festival.
