There
has been a rash of pilfering of customer mail at the Pleasanton Post Office in
the past week.  Three incidents of package envelopes being sliced open
with some type of blade and the contents removed have been reported.  To
ensure you get USPS package shipments intact, ask your merchants to take the
following precautions:

 ·
Send
merchandise in boxes, not envelopes, which are easily slit.

· Do
not reveal the contents of the package by writing on it; this helps thieves
determine if they want to pilfer the contents.

· Seal
the package with colored tape, preferably tape with printed words on it; this
makes it easier to spot tampering.

If
you believe you're a victim of pilfering, report the theft *by phone* to the
USPS at +1-800-275-8777. Say "operator" at each prompt until you get
in the queue for a live service representative. In addition, please notify the
supervisor for zip code 94566 at the Pleasanton Post Office.
