Vintage Hills Elementary Reaches Recycling Goal!

On Friday, May 2, 2014 Vintage Hills Elementary students celebrated their six week achievement of drastically reducing their waste through the Ready Set Recycle School Challenge, an educational program designed by StopWaste. The program is designed to build awareness and engagement in Alameda County schools around properly sorting recyclables and compostables and empower students to become environmental leaders.

To celebrate, the school held a "Passing the Green Torch" Ceremony, followed by festivities. Fifth graders shared lessons learned with the fourth graders and symbolically passed on their litter pick, a green apron, and a Ready Set Recycle ruler as they will "rule the school green!” The 4th graders go on as 5th graders next year to launch the Ready Set Recycle Challenge school-wide.
