Longtime Museum Board Director Passes Away

Bill Apperson is remembered as a friend of the museum who made significant and lasting contributions to the history and historic preservation in Pleasanton.

Bill Apperson, a longtime board director for the Museum on Main, passed away earlier this week, officials said.

He is remembered as a friend of the museum who made significant and lasting contributions to the history and historic preservation in Pleasanton.

"We are quite saddened by this news as he was truly a dear friend of the museum and beloved in the community," said Jennifer Amiel, the museum's director of education.

Apperson joined the museum's board of directors in 1973, and served as president of the board from 1974-1977. He continued to serve as a board member until his passing on Tuesday. 

Amiel said Apperson was awarded the Phoebe Apperson Hearst Award by Museum on Main in 2010 for his contributions to the community and preserving its history.

The Museum on Main also has honored his service through the Bill Apperson Scholarship Fund awarded to local high school graduates each year.

Officials announced Apperson's passing Thursday with a status update on the museum's Facebook page.

Jan Batcheller commented on the post and wrote: Bill was the Museum's best friend and my dear friend. I will sorely miss Bill and his magnificent sense of humor.
