Broken Water Line in Pleasanton Apartment Complex Leaves Residents High and Dry

Residents at the Springhouse Apartments have been without running water for four days.

A broken water line at an apartment complex in Pleasanton has left its residents frustrated and parched.

The 4-inch water pipe at the Springhouse Apartments complex broke on Friday night, leaving residents with empty taps and without the ability to shower or flush toilets, according to several sources.

Michael Todd, a resident at 5505 Springhouse Drive, says residents were not notified about the broken water pipe until Saturday.

"Phone calls to the leasing office went unanswered for over 24 hours as the complex's management failed to pass any information to residents after the water stopped flowing," Todd said. "A notice that a water line was under repair was all that was offered on Saturday evening. No more communication was circulated until 9:00PM Sunday night, with a notice left on doors indicating that repairs were unsuccessful. I am sure that paying almost $2,000 in rent and utilities to live in an upscale community warrants better conditions than this."

The apartment managers projected the line to be repaired by Saturday evening, according to a July 19 notice placed on doors of the complex. The next day, another notice was posted that said the water to the entire complex had been shut off due to the broken water line and that contractors would return on Monday. The noticed gave no estimate of when the repairs would be complete. On July 20, a third notice was posted that said portable toilets were available for residents on the property.

Todd told Patch an employee of the Springhouse Apartments told him on Sunday that a large pipe was broken and nothing to repair it could be bought at Home Depot so the repairs had to be postponed until Monday.

According to Todd, the notice given to residents on Saturday said water jugs were available to residents in the leasing office.

"The portable toilets did not arrive until sometime this morning," Todd said. "It's ridiculous. I expect better than this."

City officials told Patch that the 4-inch water line failed inside the property leaving the apartments without water since last week. Daniel Smith, the Director of Operations for City of Pleasanton, says the city is doing everything in their control to get the apartment complex owners to repair the line.

Employees who answered the phone at the Springhouse Apartments declined to comment on the lack of water or the repairs.

According to Propertyshark.com, the apartment complex has 354 units.
