Foothill High School Grad Gets Hero's Welcome Home

United States Marine Corporal Nick Martel returned home to Pleasanton in August

Here's information provided by the Pleasanton Military Families Support Group:

Nick Martel grew up in Pleasanton and graduated from Foothill in 2007. He loved snowboarding and target shooting.

Martel joined the Marine Corps in October 2008 as an Infantryman and was stationed at Camp Pendleton. During his service he served on two MEU deployments - one in 2010 and 2012. During these deployments Martel trained as a Rifle Expert with Marines from units in Kuwait, Jordan, South Korea, Japan, Guam, and Bahrain, among others.

Some of Martel's awards and ribbons are: Rifle Expert Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service and Expeditionary Medals, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Letter of Appreciation, Certificate of Appreciation, and Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal.

Martel ended his contract from the Marine Corp in September 2012 and plans to resume college in September. He will be studying Business at Sacramento State.
