Information from the Goodguys--

A palpable youthful exuberance will fill the air at the upcoming Goodguys 20th Summer Get-Together presented by Specialty Sales Classics June 1 & 2 at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton.

The core of the large & colorful event is American powered show cars of all years, makes & models but the spirit is all about the youngsters this time around. Headlining the activity is the all new Hot Rodders of Tomorrow “Engine Challenge.” Held for the first time ever at a Goodguys event, The Engine Challenge is a timed competition between two 6-man high school teams to see which one can tear down and rebuild a V8 Chevy engine the fastest using only hand tools.

Livermore High School’s R.O.P. dept will field two teams. Santa Clara’s Wilcox High School will also field a team representing Northern California. Katella High, Rancho Alamitos and Calabasas High will represent Southern California. In addition, two teams, Thomas County Central and Peach County High School will come all the way from Georgia to compete in the two-day competition. Joining the mechanical mayhem will be live music from the Diablo Valley College “Rhythm, Rock & Blues Review.”

The live stage performance features 25 bands comprised of music students from Concord’s well known Junior College. Various genres are represented including rock, jazz, Motown, doo wop, country western and more. The bands will play live from 11am-4pm Saturday June 1st. Other special attractions during the weekend include a special “Muscle-Palooza” exhibit inside the Young California Building featuring various styles and genres of Detroit Muscle Cars from the 1960s through contemporary favorites.

Inside the Hall of Commerce building will be a special exhibit of custom handmade bicycles from the South Bay’s “Behind Bars Inc” bicycle shop. Over 50 hand crafted bicycles of all shapes and sizes are expected!  Out on the paved black top, engines will scream during the fast and exciting Goodguys AutoCross competition. Hundreds of cars will compete on the timed course during the weekend in five different competition divisions. Also new to the event this year is the “Good Beer” garden serving craft beers from local and domestic breweries.

Of course the usual Goodguys gear head fare will be served up including the popular swap meet & cars-for-sale-corral as well as a bevy of manufacturer’s exhibits, special parking areas and more. The two day festival is expected to attract over 2,500 cars as well as a crowd in excess of 50,000. “Youth will be served indeed,” expressed Goodguys President Marc Meadors. “We’re excited to offer these new event activities for younger car enthusiasts at the Summer Get-Together.

The beauty of a Goodguys Get-Together event format featuring all years, makes and models of show cars is it appeals to many different generations.

"You’ve got high school kids and grandpa’s showing off cars and enjoying the atmosphere together,” he said. “With these new event activities and attractions, I think you’ll see new energy and new enthusiasts both participating in the event as well as just hanging out having fun. Goodguys has always been about having fun with cars.”

The Goodguys 20th Summer Get-Together presented by Specialty Sales Classics runs from 8am-5pm Saturday June 1st and 8am-4pm Sunday, June 2nd. General admission is $17, kids 7-12 $6 and fairgrounds parking is $8. Tickets can be purchased at www.good-guys.com or at the event.  For information by phone dial Goodguys (925) 838-9876.
