After Three Year Battle, Janet Liang Dies From Leukemia

Janet Liang has died after a lengthy battle with leukemia.

Liang, an graduate and UCLA student, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia while attending college in 2009. She was in remission in 2010 and relapsed in 2011.

In January, Janet posted a video blog on Youtube sharing her story and Team Janet soared from a group of 2,000 to more than 10,000 people.

According to the "WeDidIt" website, created to help Liang and her family, "300+ drives, 20,000+ new registrants, and 18 matches for other patients found, Janet finally found her own miracle match. Her generous donor will remain anonymous to her for a year, but she is incredibly thankful for the chance to celebrate a second birthday and make plans for her future."

It is with a sad and heavy heart that we announce the passing of Janet Liang.

Janet has served as an inspiration to all those who knew her. Her big heart and big smile was something that we all cherished. And although she never fulfilled her dream of being a teacher, she has taught us all one very important lesson: love. Despite battling leukemia for 3 years, she has always found it within her to make her situation more than about herself. Her campaign to raise awareness and advocate for bone marrow donors was for the love of her fellow human. She has certainly taught all of us to love one another, and live each day as if it were our last. After bravely fighting cancer for three years, she has finally found her peace.
