Pleasanton Neighborhood National Night Out a Success

There were almost 40 block parties throughout Pleasanton on Tuesday night in the name of crime prevention.

Gatetree Circle was one of almost 40 Pleasanton neighborhoods and 11,000 nationally that participated Tuesday in National Night Out.

Block parties were held in each of the neighborhoods that included visits from the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department, Pleasanton Police Department sworn officers and reserve officers, and various city staff and elected officials. The idea is to show the community that neighborhoods will not tolerate crime — getting together to get to know each other means a tighter-knit community where one neighbor keeps an eye on the other neighborh's house, and vice versa.

National Night Out is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug awareness, (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs, (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships, and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and are fighting back.
