TV30’s fourth Annual Outstanding High School Athletic Awards event took place on Thursday, May 29 at the Robert Livermore Community Center. High school scholar athletes from Dublin, Livermore and Pleasanton were honored.   Sponsored by Tri-ValleyCommunity Television, the event featured guest speaker, former San Francisco 49er defensive end, Dennis Brown.  The show is now airing on TV30 and also available video on demand.

Throughout the 2013-14 school season an outstanding varsity high school athlete was chosen by TV30’s sports panel.  Each one was highlighted on TV30's signature weekly program “Tri-Valley Sports Final”. Fifty-two outstanding students and their families were extended a coveted invitation to attend the special ceremony and reception.  Over 250 people gathered for the event.  It included the Mayors of Dublin, Livermore and Pleasanton.

Several other elected officials, the Tri-Valley school superintendents, principals, athletic directors and coaches from the high schools were there also. Superintendent Kelly Bowers, from LVJUSD, commented, “This is a very significant Valley-wide event honoring our young athletes who really deserve recognition for themselves, their schools and the coaching staff.”

Bay Area resident, Dennis Brown, wearing his 49ers Super Bowl ring, was the guest speaker. He remains active with his former NFL team and is a color sports announcer for Comcast at the San Francisco 49ers’ games.  Dennis was a member of the most recent San Francisco team to win a Super Bowl championship.  It was in January of 1995, in Miami.

Throughout the 2013 season, Brown also worked alongside select youth football leagues as an NFL Ambassador. He delivered an inspiring message to the audience about his challenges, convictions and reasons for success. It held universal appeal to all those present. The result was a rousing applause from the audience.

For the second year, “Tri-Valley Sports Final” awarded the "Game of the Week" trophy to selected high schools.  Awards were presented to the superintendents, principals, athletic directors and coaches from the schools.

During the program parents and families watched a giant-screen video of each student’s winning play.  Then the athletes received their awards from “Tri-Valley Sports Final” hosts Ian Bartholomew and George “Dr. B” Baljevich.

They were then congratulated by Dennis Brown, Mayor Tim Sbranti of Dublin, Mayor John Marchand of Livermore, and Mayor Jerry Thorne of Pleasanton. Finally the students were presented with congratulatory letters from Congressman Eric Swalwell and certificates of recognition from Alameda County Supervisor Scott Haggerty. Senate Majority Leader Ellen Corbett also had official engraved certificates for each honoree.

Included in the TV30 broadcast of the Outstanding Athletic Award event are individual interviews with the Athletes of the Week, parents, coaches and principals. "With all the high-paced activity of everyday life I am glad we have prioritized a very special night to honor students and their families for their dedication and hard work,” said Melissa Tench-Stevens, Executive Director of TV30.  Rev. Allen Turner, attending for the first time, said, “This is the most significant and elegant reception and awards event produced in and for Tri-Valley outstanding youth.”

The awards and event were sponsored by Tri-Valley TV, the TV30 Foundation and local underwriters. There was no charge to the awardees or anyone to attend or participate.

The Outstanding High School Athletic Awards event was taped and is currently airing on Tri-Valley TV until August 31. The 90-minute show may be viewed on TV30 and streaming live on our website at www.tv30.org.  Photos of the event are also on the website. DVDs are available for purchase.
