When is Rosh Hashanah?

The Jewish High Holiday begins this weekend.

Rosh Hashanah, the two-day celebration and time of personal reflection that marks the Jewish New Year, begins Sunday, Sept. 16.

If you are looking for ways to spend the holiday, look no further. There are a number of High Holiday events in the East Bay.

Below is Patch's list for the Tri-Valley. If you have any events to add to the list, let us know in comments and we will add your suggestions.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 16

The Tri-Valley Cultural Jews are having a celebration on Sunday. Their Rosh Hashanah Tashlikh is at 4 p.m. Meet at the Bothwell Center located at 2466 8th Street in Livermore  and walk down to some running water for a short ceremony.

After walking back, at 5 p.m. the group will have a potluck dinner.  At 6 p.m. they will have our Secular Rosh Hashanah ceremony, with readings and
music, followed by a reception with honeycake baked by their Jewish Culture School students, and apples and honey.

Children are welcome. They are asking people to bring a dish to share and, if they like, a donation of canned or boxed food for the food bank. Free to members. $15 for adult (over 13) non-members.

Please let us know via the comments section if we are missing any other local Rosh Hashanah ceremonies and we will add them to the list.

Many thanks to Police/Animal Services. Next order of business is to educate residents not to allowRead More ducks to nest on their property that is not adjacent to natural waterways or canals - it may seem cute, but it's cruel when the mama duck loses babies to cats and storm drains.
