A three time California Arts Council grant recipient, Michael McLaughlin has
worked for twenty-one years as an Artist-in-Residence at Atascadero State
Hospital, a maximum security forensic facility, as a Contract Artist with the
California De...partment of Corrections, with California Youth Authority (w/
incarcerated adults & youth), and as San Luis Obispo county Area
Coordinator for California Poets in the Schools. A graduate of The University
of Southern California's' Master of Professional Writing program, McLaughlin's
written one novel, Western People Show Their Faces and three books of poetry,
Ped Xing, The Upholstery of Heaven and Countless Cinemas.
Originally from San Francisco, McLaughlin lives on the central California coast
with his brilliant wife. Currently completing his second novel, Gang of One,
McLaughlin was Poet Laureate of San Luis Obispo, California in 2003.
Jim Curcuro, longtime resident of Livermore, has displayed his poetry in
previous East meets West exhibits, as well as the Third Biennial Ekphrasis
exhibition for the City of Livermore, Blacksmith Square and the Alameda County
Fair.
His poetry has won numerous awards, including “Best in Show” in the 2010
Alameda County Fair as well as Silver awards in the 2011 Alameda County Fair.
Jim’s real passion is the “open mic” events where he gets to share his humor
and thought provoking poetry with others.
