Grocery Workers to Converge in Pleasanton to Support Contract Fight Over Good Jobs and Health Care

Group will start at 3 p.m. at the Macy's Furniture Store, then will move on to Centennial Park downtown for a 4 p.m. rally.

Grocery and department store workers from across Northern California will descend on Pleasanton today to rally in support of good jobs and affordable health care, according to the website Teletrader.

Workers will meet at the in the Rosewood shopping center on Santa Rita Road for a rally. Then they will go to Pleasanton’s where they will speak in support of good grocery jobs and in support of efforts to negotiate an equitable agreement with , and Save Mart.

Members in Local 5’s grocery division have been trying to come to a consensus with their employers over wages and benefit costs since their contract expires in October 2012.

Macy’s furniture store workers are in talks for a first contract.

WHERE and WHEN: 3 p.m. Macy’s furniture store Pleasanton, 4255 Rosewood Dr. (off Santa Rita) then to Centennial Park (5353 Sunol Blvd.) in downtown Pleasanton for a rally to begin at 4 p.m.

WHO: Grocery and retail workers from across Northern California represented by UFCW Local 5 and supporters. Workers from Raley’s, Safeway, Save Mart, Macy’s, retired workers, union leaders, political and community supporters including State Controller John Chiang will speak.
