STONERIDGE CREEK PLEASANTON CELEBRATES GRAND OPENING

Stoneridge Creek Pleasanton (www.stoneridgecreek.com), the first new continuing care retirement community to be built in the East Bay in decades, celebrated its official grand opening Friday with patriotic fanfare and cheers from more than 600 new residents and their families, special guests, and local government officials. With a “Passport to Better Living” theme, the midday event commemorated the start of new beginnings for hundreds of seniors and the official opening of Stoneridge Creek after six years of planning and construction.

Grand opening festivities for Stoneridge Creek began with a medley of historical patriotic songs by the Young American Patriots, a Pleasanton-based fife and drum corps, and the singing of the national anthem. Troy Bourne, vice president of planning for Stoneridge Creek, served as emcee for a brief, resident-oriented ceremony. Speaking on behalf of the new community were State Senator Ellen Corbett (10th District), County Supervisor Scott Haggerty (District 1), Pleasanton Mayor Jerry Thorne, Councilmember Kathy Narum and Patricia Kohnen. Mrs. Kohnen and her husband, Jim, were among the first people to sign up to live at Stoneridge Creek in 2007.

Also sharing thoughts about the opening of the new community were Ryan Currie, vice president of development for Stoneridge Creek, and Fran Rodgers, executive director. Mrs. Kohnen recalled her involvement with the “Yellow Shirt Committee,” a group of seniors who attended Pleasanton city council meetings and contacted council members to urge approval for Stoneridge Creek. Her remarks summed up the day for many of her fellow residents.

“I am thrilled to be one of the pioneers of Stoneridge Creek,” she said. “My two sons are also very happy that I’m here. In reality, my move to Stoneridge Creek is the greatest gift I could have given them because they will never have to worry about me. I’m looking forward to a long, exciting life at my new community and to all the fun times ahead.”

Additional guests at the event included numerous representatives from the medical profession and staff from the California Department of Social Services.

“Today celebrates a tremendous achievement that’s been in progress for years, from initial concept to resident move-ins,” Bourne said. “Stoneridge Creek truly illustrates our vision for what a continuing care retirement community should be for seniors, and it’s been brought to life by hundreds of new residents and employees as well as countless community leaders. This is a day of celebration for everyone involved with Stoneridge Creek, but especially for the residents who waited patiently and never lost faith that this dream would come true. Stoneridge Creek is their passport to better living, and we are excited to welcome them to Stoneridge Creek where they will start the most exciting chapter of their lives.”

The grand opening ceremony concluded with a ribbon-cutting and white dove release. A luncheon buffet and wine bar created and served by Stoneridge Creek’s staff of culinary experts were held at different stations throughout the community. Entertainment was provided by Swank Entertainment, the Magnolia Jazz Band and a troupe of ballroom dancers.

In addition, guests were presented with a “passport to better living” and asked to visit various “destinations” around the community for a chance to win a free trip. Destinations included Ohlone Hall performing arts center, community library, Legacy movie theater, wine room, pool and fitness center, salon and spa, and other locations. Visitors and guests were also encouraged to take self-guided tours of other Stoneridge Creek amenities including the short game golf course, tennis courts, outdoor fireplace lounge, gardens and dog park.

The grand opening for Stoneridge Creek Pleasanton followed a ribbon-cutting sponsored by the city of Pleasanton for the new Stoneridge Drive road extension, the Stoneridge Creek Neighborhood Park and the extension of the Arroyo Mocho Trail to Livermore. The extension of Stoneridge Drive provides access to the new retirement community.

Designed for people aged 60 and older, Stoneridge Creek is located at 3300 Stoneridge Creek Way. The continuing care retirement community offers a variety of housing options; a comprehensive package of services, amenities and activities including fine dining and transportation; and convenient access to assisted living and long-term nursing care services at Creekview Health Center, if ever needed.
