Football: Amador Wins Big, Foothill Drops Close One

The Dons were big winners against Washington.

AMADOR VALLEY 28, WASHINGTON 0

The host Dons (2-1) scored touchdowns in each quarter and were brilliant on defense in a 28-0 win against Washington of Fremont.

Moreno gave the team the only points it would need with a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and tacked on a touchdown pass in the second quarter to Nik Papageorge as the Dons started to pull away.

The key all night was the Amador defense, which allowed just 11 yards rushing and forced three turnovers.

After taking a 14-0 lead into the half, Griffen scored on a 30-yard run in the third quarter and Sam Peters added a 23-yard touchdown.

Amador opens East Bay Athletic League play at San Ramon Valley on Sept. 30.

JAMES LOGAN 13, FOOTHILL 9

Despite Foothill's recent success against James Logan, Friday's home game figured to be a tough challenge for the Falcons. The Colts came into the game ranked No. 8 in the Bay Area by the San Francisco Chronicle and were dominant in their first two games.

That wasn't the case Friday as Foothill hung tough before losing 13-9. Even in the loss, Foothill showed it can hang with the area's elite teams — similar to in Week 1 against Pittsburg.

Unfortunately for the Falcons, it'll get more difficult before it gets easier with the Chronicle's No. 3 and No. 1 ranked teams up next in California (Sept. 30) and De La Salle (Oct. 7). If Foothill were to drop both of those games, it would needed to win four of its five remaining EBAL games to qualify for postseason play.

It's arguably the most difficult early-season schedule of any team in Northern California. Foothill's first five opponents have a current combined record of 13-1 — the lone loss being Novato's 26-16 loss to, yes, Foothill.

Foothill came out with just nine points in four trips inside the Logan 10-yard line wrote Matt Smith for the Bay Area Newsgroup

The Falcons scored their first touchdown with under a minute to go to make the score 13-9, but didn't recover a last-ditch onside kick attempt.
