Former Pleasanton Cook Captures Preakness Stakes Win

Jockey Martin Garcia, a former cook at a local deli, took the top prize with the horse Lookin At Lucky at the Preakness Stakes in Baltimore.

Jockey Martin Garcia captured headlines this weekend when he rode the horse, Lookin At Lucky, all the way to the winning circle of the Preakness Stakes in Baltimore.

The former cook from Mexico began his journey to the winning circle at the Chicago's Metropolitan Deli in Pleasanton.

Media reports stated that it was owner of that deli, Terri Terry, who got GarciaΒ  connected with local trainers five years ago.Β

Since then, Garcia has won numerous races and has competed at tracks around the country including Kentucky, Santa Anita and Del Mar.
