Last Week in Pleasanton: Nov. 1 to Nov. 7

A look back at some of the happenings around town over the last week.

Incumbents in the City Council and Mayoral elections won at the polls this past Tuesday. In school board elections, Jeff Bowser and Joan Laursen garnered the most votes to take the two available seats.

But results of close races, including the contest between Jerry McNerney and David Harmer in the 11th Congressional District, are still up in the air because of the unprecedented number of vote-by-mail and provisional ballots that were turned in on election day. In Alameda County,  officials say they won't expect a full count from Tuesday's election until the end of this coming week.

On Tuesday, Democratic incumbent, Joan Buchanan, was victorious in her rematch against the San Ramon mayor, Abram Wilson. Dawn Benson and appointed incumbent Georgean Vonheeder-Leopold got the most votes in the San Ramon Services District election. In Alameda County, Measure F, the $10 vehicle registration surcharge to improve streets and transit safety, won easily. Lastly, Californians rejected Proposition 19, which would have legalized the use of marijuana.

It was a jubilant week for San Francisco Giants fans after the team won the World Series against the Texas Rangers in Game 5 on Monday. Check out some of the reaction at the where some fans gathered to watch the game.

An estimated half a million people all over the Bay Area used BART to get to the San Francisco Giants victory parade on Wednesday. At Dublin-Pleasanton station, fans reportedly lined up for hours to get BART tickets. But for many, the wait was worth it.

Police and crime news:

The trial in the Castlewood double murder began on Monday. The attorney for the defendant, Ernest Francis Scherer III, submitted dozens of motions while the judge outlined the schedule for the trial in the coming months.

On Thursday, Pleasanton police arrested, Peter Gruguveic III, 19, in connection with a series of residential burglaries in Castro Valley and Pleasanton's Preserve neighborhood. Victims of the burglaries will be contacted by police to identify items found in Grgurevic's during a search warrant.

Sports news:

Amador pulled out an upset against San Ramon Valley with a field goal in the last 1:14 minutes during Friday's game.

The Falcons fell to undefeated Cal, with a final score of 49-7.
