No Rest for Local Teen Improv Group

Just back from an improv festival in Chicago, members of Creatures of Impulse will perform the The Impossible Film Project shows, held from May 20 to May 23.

Only a few days back from participating in a teen comedy festival in Chicago, local teen improv group, Creatures of Impulse, is busy again with their "Impossible Film Project" shows running from May 20 to May 23.

At the festival, troupe members connected with other teens from all over the country and learned about improv techniques.

Duncanson said the members got a chance to watch other groups perform or attend workshops on sketch comedy writing or how to host improv shows.

"It was an action-packed weekend, it was a lot of fun," said Mark Duncanson, director of the troupe.

The group also performed a 21-minute long-form piece, which was unique from other group performances, said Duncanson.

But the trip hasn't slowed down the group. This weekend's shows will be another whirlwind. Three teams of improvers will shoot short films from audience suggestions. The films are all shot, downloaded, and screened all in one night.

Here's a bonus clip from Thursday's show after an audience member suggested for one team to do a movie trailer.

For some in the troupe, the "Impossible Film Project" will be their last one with Creatures of Impulse. Eleven out of the 15 members are graduating and the group is holding auditions on May 25 for new members.

Teens are especially encouraged to watch the shows this weekend and see what the group is all about, said Duncanson.

The Impossible Film Project will be held at the Veterans Memorial Building at 7:30 p.m. Adult tickets are $10 and student tickets are $5.

Auditions will take place on 5/25 at the Cultural Arts Building.
