Rain and Wind Forecasted Today, Holiday Weekend

The National Weather Forecast is expecting a rainy and windy weekend.

BAY CITY NEWS — Forecasters say there is a high chance for rain today with temperatures reaching highs in the 50s and lows in the 40s. Winds could be up to 20 mph today.

A wet and windy Christmas also is expected for the Bay Area this year,  a National Weather Service forecaster said.

"There's going to be a soggy Santa on Christmas Day," National Weather Service forecaster Diana Henderson said.

She predicted strong winds and rain throughout the holiday.

Bay Area residents should expect up to 2 inches of rain by the end  of the week in urban areas, National Weather Service forecaster Charles Bell said.

Those in higher elevations could see up to four inches.

Anyone planning to travel to the mountains is advised to check with Caltrans to ensure that roadways are safe, as snow is expected to fall as low as 5,000 feet.

Rainfall over the past few days has caused flooding in some spots.

"We've already had some reports of very minor issues," Bell said. "We're not anticipating anything major, but there is potential for some urban
and small stream flooding."
