Rain In June? Not That Unusual

The late season storm that passed through the East Bay dropped about a tenth of an inch in most places

If you can't remember the last time it rained in the East Bay in June, then you have a short memory.

It actually rained quite a bit in June last year. In fact, 1.48 inches fell at Livermore airport in June 2011, one of the wettest Junes on record.

Bob Benjamin of the National Weather Service office in Monterey said there are some years when Northern California gets rain in June and other years when it doesn't.

"It's not unusual for it to rain in June here," said Benjamin. "Does it rain every June? No. But it's not unusual."

As of 2 p.m., Monday's storm had dropped anywhere from .04 inches of rain in Concord to .07 inches in the Tri-Valley and San Ramon Valley to .12 inches on Mount Diablo.

The forecast calls for possible showers this evening with sunny skies the rest of the week. High temperatures are expected to be in the low 80s.
