The community is invited to a memorial service Saturday for a 23-year-old Pleasanton soldier killed in Afghanistan
The service for Army Spec. will begin at 4 p.m. at the , 301 Main St. Doors will open 15 minutes prior.
An army medic, Lindskog was killed March 29 in Kunar province near the Pakistan border. Two other soldiers from his unit were also killed during the offensive operation, according to the U.S. Department of Defense. A total of six were killed that day.
The Pleasanton native joined the Army in 2008 and was to be discharged next year. He was the first Pleasanton native to be killed in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
Lindskog was the son of Donna Walker of Pleasanton and Curtis Lindskog of Livermore. Born in San Mateo, he attended and spent his freshman year at before transferring to Orion Academy in Moraga. He graduated from that school in 2005.
The memorial service will include family members speaking, a slide show and presentations.
Also, between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., the public can come and drop off cards, letters and flowers or view displays.
