Seniors Dance for World Record

The event was held Saturday at the Alameda County Fairgrounds.

Dozens gathered at the Alameda County Fairgrounds on Saturday for a lofty goal—to break the Guinness World Record for dancing seniors.

While the relatively low turnout did not break records, Marion Sanchez, the Hayward man who organized the event, said he was happy to promote dancing as a form of healthy activity.

He had hoped to put together an event for all ages, but in May, more than 2,000 couples danced in France. Sanchez decided to focus on senior dancers.

The 78-year-old former counselor at Chabot College said he hopes to do similar events in the future.
