Seafood Extravaganza!

New Leaf Community Markets is featuring a special event featuring fresh seafood on Friday August 16 and Saturday, August 17.

You can purchase fresh fish right from the truck of one of New Leaf’s seafood distributors that will be parked in front of the store on Friday August 16 from 11 am to 7 pm and on Saturday August 17 from 11 am to 3 pm.

Inside the store there will be seafood product demonstrations and sampling.  Sautéed prawns and a wine pairing will be offered at no charge from 4 pm-7 pm on Friday.  Fish tacos will be sold for $3 each.

New Leaf’s partner FishWise will have a table where customers can learn about “sustainable seafood” (seafood that is from sources, whether fished or farmed, that can maintain or increase production into the long-term without jeopardizing the structure or function of affected ecosystems). FishWise was founded in 2002 to enable consumers and grocery retailers to support marine conservation through their seafood purchasing decisions. This nonprofit helps New Leaf source and label the seafood it sells. New Leaf helped pilot the FishWise program and is the only retailer in the greater Pleasanton area who sells no non-sustainable seafood. (www.fishwise.org)
