Pleasantonians Could Get Their Way, and Stop "The Rapids" Water Slides From Closing

The Pleasanton Parks and Recreation Commission will meet at 7 p.m. April 16 to discuss the slides.

The Rapids Water Slides were as good as closed.

Read this year (or ever again) because the owner couldn't afford extensive repairs.

But then residents spoke out in favor of the park at a East Bay Regional Parks District operations meeting in mid-March, and then again on Thursday.

The staff recommendation was to close the slides, but the parks board on Thursday overruled it and decided to look at alternatives for keeping the slides, which operate at , open.

Park director Ayn Weiskamp said she was responding to her constituents who have consistently said they value the slides. She said that she wants to hear what  the Pleasanton community has to say at an April Pleasanton Parks and Recreation meeting that is scheduled as a public meeting on the topic.

That meeting will take place at 7 p.m. April 16, in the Pleasanton City Council chamber, 200 Old Bernal Ave.

There, officials will talk about different alternatives for keeping the slides functioning.

The Pleasanton Youth Commission will also put the issue on its April 11 agenda.
