Famed Artist, Gerald Brommer Visits Pleasanton

The renowned artist will offer a workshop on May 29 at the Museum on Main.

The Pleasanton Art League held its 41st Annual Show throughout the weekend at the Alviso Adobe Community Park. The league also held a reception yesterday with internationally renowned artist Gerald Brommer as the special guest.

Brommer, known for his rice paper collages, watercolor and acrylic paintings and as the author of more than 30 art books, will be hosting a workshop on Monday at the Pleasanton Senior Center.

At yesterday's reception with Brommer, the artist greeted everyone enthusiastically.

"I"m looking forward to teaching the workshop," said Brommer. 

The last day for the  art show, which showcases works from local artists, will be today. There is no charge for admissions and everyone is welcomed. Pieces are also up for sale.

Amongst the crowd at the art show are a number of local artists.

Engela Olivier Wilson, is a Pleasanton resident of three years, whose showed oil and acrylic paintings.

"After joining the Pleasanton Art League, I won an honorable mention in the last show," Wilson said. "Now I'm happy that I've sold one of my paintings, 'Cape Sparrow' in this show."

Sharon Tangney, another Pleasanton resident, is a photographer who's "Sky Castle" photograph received an honorable mention in the show, judged by Brommer.

Tangney's photo depicts a hot air balloon that looks like a floating castle] from the Albuquerque Balloon Show,

"I just retired two years ago, and now I'm free to return to everything I loved doing when I was young, like modern dance, painting and photography," said Tangney.
