Condominium Fire Displaces Two

The Red Cross is assisting the homeowners

By Autumn Johnson

Two homeowners living in the Smoketree Commons condominiums on Bernal Avenue and Tawny Drive, were displaced after a fire damaged their home. The fire, which started just after 6 p.m. last night could be seen on the balcony,  Livermore Pleasanton Fire Battalion Chief Jack Neiman-Kimel said.

Neiman-Kimel told Patch, via email:

"On arrival of the first fire units there was fire coming from the balcony of an upstairs unit. The fire had penetrated into the condo as entry was made. The fire was extinguished inside the condo and on the balcony."

Neiman-Kimel says that fire personnel checked the surrounding units to make sure the fire had not spread.

"The condominiums have a fire sprinkler system that helped keep the fire in check inside the condo until we could get in and extinguish the fire," Neiman-Kimel said.

According to Neiman-Kimel, four engines, two trucks and two Battalion Chiefs from both the Livermore-Pleasanton FIre Department and the Alameda County Fire Department responded to the fire.

"There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters," Neiman-Kimel commented. "Two homeowners have been displaced and taken care of by the Red Cross."
