Fatal Crash Shuts Down Highway 84 in Sunol

One person killed in 9:15 a.m. wreck, CHP says.

Bay City News —   A multi-car crash that shut down both directions of traffic on
state Highway 84 in Sunol has left one person dead, according to the
California Highway Patrol.

The two-vehicle head-on traffic collision involving an SUV and a
pickup truck was reported on Highway 84 near Pleasanton Sunol Road around
9:15 a.m., Officer Ron Simmons said.

The CHP issued a Sig-Alert at 9:35 a.m. and both eastbound and
westbound sides of the roadway were closed.

Eastbound Highway 84 at the intersection of Palomares and Niles
Canyon roads reopened to traffic around 10:55 a.m., nearly two hours after
the collision was reported, according to the CHP.

The extent of injuries suffered by other people involved in the crash was not immediately known.
