Small Vegetation Fire in Pleasanton Incinerates Boat & RV

No homes were damaged in the fire, fire officials said.

Livermore Pleasanton Fire officials believe weed abatement is to blame for a one-acre brush fire on the south end of Pleasanton Saturday afternoon.

The fire, located in the 700 block of Sycamore Road, started just before 2 p.m. and was quickly extinguished, according to Livermore Pleasanton Fire Department Battalion Chief Jack Neiman-Kimel.

"On arrival of the first engine, they called for a second alarm which brought three more engines and a full Cal Fire response," Neiman-Kimel said. "All but four engines from Cal Fire were cancelled due to the rapid extinguishment. The crew had approximately one acre of grass burning as well as a boat and RV under a covered structure.  Water supply is limited in that area and we had to have an engine lay a long supply line of water.  Once that was accomplished the boat and RV were extinguished quickly."

No homes were damaged during the fire.

Neiman-Kimel added, "It appears someone was mowing the field next door and that ignited the fire. It is recommended to have your fields mowed as low as possible but should be done early in the day or on cooler days. Mowing in the heat of the day can strike a rock and cause a spark which can cause a fire."

Smoke from the fire could be seen throughout Tri-Valley. Pleasanton Police sent out a Nixle Alert advising residents to avoid the area around Sycamore Road due to the fire and smoke.
