A man hanged himself from a tree May 4 on Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park, just off of a well-traveled, four-mile trail.
He was a Pleasanton man, according to the Alameda County Coroner's Office. Patch does not customarily print the names of suicide victims.
The woman who called 911 said she came upon him around 10:45 a.m. Two bicyclists found him first, and alerted her as she was walking by, she said.
She stayed with the man while the two cyclists went down to help guide firetrucks, police and other emergency workers up to where he was.
"A lot of us hike that trail regularly, and I can't remember the last time something like this happened," she said.
"It was just so startling and shocking. It was seriously the craziest, saddest thing I've ever seen in my life."
