Man Shot, Killed by Dublin Police Officer

A domestic violence suspect was shot and killed by a police officer in Dublin Sunday evening after allegedly attacking an officer with a baseball bat, a police lieutenant said.

Officers responded around 6:15 p.m. to the reported domestic disturbance call at a home in the 7000 block of Dublin Meadows Street where they were met by a man armed with a baseball bat at the front door, Dublin police Lt. Herb Walters said.

He said the man immediately attacked one of the officers with the bat. "The officer felt his life was in immediate danger and fired several rounds at the suspect," Walters said.

Medical personnel responded to the scene but were unable to revive the man, who died from his injuries.

Police said an investigation into the officer-involved shooting is under way.

Walters did not say whether the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on leave.
