Police Arrest Man on Child Molest Charges

Suspect, scheduled to appear in court Wednesday, was a youth ministry leader at a Castro Valley church.

A 35-year-old Livermore man was charged in court Monday with two felony counts of child molestation stemming from a 2009 incident involving a Pleasanton girl he knew from church.

The Pleasanton Police Department arrested Carloe Estigo at his Livermore residence on Ventura Avenue on Friday evening.

Estigo, who lists his employment as equipment technician, was booked at the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin on charges of lewd acts upon a child between 14 and 15 years old, and sexual penetration of a minor under 16 years old with a foreign object.

Teresa Drenick, Alameda County deputy district attorney, said the charges against Estigo result from an Oct. 1, 2009, incident.

The girl and her mother contacted the Pleasanton Police Department on Friday when the mother learned what had happened, police Sgt. Jim Knox said.

Pleasanton police took Estigo into custody that day at his Livermore home on Ventura Avenue.

Police are still investigating whether other youths might have been victimized, Knox said.

In Estigo's online and social media profiles, he's listed as a graduate in engineering and physics from a Nazarene college in Idaho and a church youth leader at Castro Valley Church of Nazarene, which lists him in a 2010 directory as a Nazarene Youth International president.

It is unclear if that affiliation is current or if the role was as a volunteer or paid employee. Pastor Steve Redmond said via an email to Patch that he would issue a statement on the arrest, but then later said while the church is aware of the incident it did not wish to comment.

According to his public profile on MySpace, it appears that Estigo previously lived in Castro Valley.

Alameda County Sheriff's Office inmate records show Estigo posted bail set at $200,000 and is no longer in custody.

Estigo, who was at his north Livermore home Tuesday afternoon, shook a Patch reporter's hand politely but refused to comment on the case.

"I have a court date tomorrow," he said.

When asked whether he is involved with the Castro Valley church, Estigo said, "I haven't been there in a while."

Estigo is scheduled  to enter his plea Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Gale-Schenone Hall of Justice in Pleasanton.

The Livermore Police Department assisted with the arrest, but referred media inquiries to Pleasanton authorities.

Vehicles from both police departments were at the man's house Friday evening, and the suspect was arrested without incident, according to witnesses.

If convicted of the charges he's facing, Estigo would be required under California Megan's Law to register for life as a sex offender.

No prior record for Estigo appeared in the state's database.

The felony charges carry penalties ranging from a combination of county jail time and probation up to a maximum of three years in prison per offense.
