Police and Fire Beat: Locks Bypassed, Tools Used in Burglaries

A list of notable incidents from July 26 to July 31.

Several burglaries this past week involved the use of lock-breaking and prying tools. Also, firefighters responded to several fires, including one in Moller Park on July 31.

Saturday, July 31

  • Vegetation Fire:  A fire was reported on I-680 northbound near Stoneridge Drive and Arroyo Road at 2:37 p.m..  Firefighters reported that a nearby structure was threatened by a 25-foot fire that stretched from the east side of Arroyo Road to the south side of West Las Positias on a walking path.  The blaze was contained in less than an hour. A traffic collision was reported on I-580 eastbound near Santa Rita Road at 4:19 p.m.
  • Moller Park Brush Fire: A fire was reported on the 5500 block of Pleasant Hill Road at Moller Park at 6:55 p.m.  Several residents reported the blaze, including one that saw flames from Foothill Road and another on Laurel Creek Drive.  A Cal Fire helicopter was also dispatched to monitor the fire, which spread across 50 feet of land.  Both Laurel Creek Drive and Foothill Road were temporarily shut down until firefighters contained the fire within an hour and a half.
  • Apple Store Fire: Customers were evacuated from the store in Stoneridge Mall as smoke was reportedly coming out of vents at 7:54 p.m.  Responding firefighters entered the back of the store with mall security and extinguished the small fire.

Friday, July 30

  • A traffic collision was reported on I-580 eastbound near Foothill Road at 7:24 a.m. involving three vehicles.
  • Bicycle theft was reported on the 4400 block of Railroad Avenue at 10:18 a.m.
  • Theft was reported on the 7000 block of Koll Center Parkway at 4:30 p.m.
  • A traffic collision was reported on I-580 westbound near Hopyard Road at 5:55 p.m.  Airbags were deployed and passengers reported minor injuries.
  • A traffic collision was reported on I-580 westbound near Hacienda Drive at 5:59 p.m.  Airbags were deployed and passengers reported minor injuries.

Thursday, July 29

  • A traffic collision was reported at the merge of I-580 eastbound and I-680 southbound at 8:37 a.m. involving three vehicles.
  • Theft was reported from Wet Seal on the 2300 block of Stoneridge Mall Road at 12:30 p.m.
  • Tool Used in Burglary: A burglary was reported on the 2400 block of Raven Road at 12:51 p.m. Police reported that a "pry tool" was used to break into a home through a bedroom window. The only damaged item reported was a window screen.
  • Lock Broken in Burglary: A residential burglary was reported at the Springhouse Apartments on the 5500 block of Springhouse Drive at 4:47 p.m. Police reported that a lock was "bypassed."
  • Stolen Vehicle: A vehicle was reported stolen on the 3300 block of Hartwell Court at 9:35 p.m. The victim reported that the four-door, white 1995 Honda Accord sedan was locked and parked in front of the home the previous night.
  • A traffic collision was reported on the 2300 block of East Ruby Hill Drive at 10:29 p.m.
  • A traffic collision was reported at the intersection of Dublin Canyon Road and Foothill Road at 10:37 p.m.  A vehicle struck a tree.
  • A traffic collision was reported on I-580 eastbound near Hacienda Drive at 10:53 p.m. involving two vehicles.

Wednesday, July 28

  • A burglary was reported on the 3800 block of Vineyard Avenue at 4:31 p.m.
  • A traffic collision was reported at the intersection of First Street and Abbie Street at 4:59 p.m.
  • Lock Broken in Burglary: A residential burglary was reported on the 2100 block of Camino Brazos at 5:39 p.m. Police reported that a front-door lock was "bypassed." Items reported stolen included a laptop computer, computer equipment, photo equipment and jewelry, all valued at over $5,000.
  • A traffic collision was reported on I-580 eastbound near Hacienda Drive at 5:47 p.m.

Tuesday, July 27

  • A traffic collision was reported on I-580 eastbound near Foothill Road at 3:04 a.m.
  • Tool Used in Burglary: A burglary was reported on the 4500 block of Pleasanton Avenue at 1:20 p.m. Police reported that a "pry tool" was used to break into a home, where car tools valued under $1,000 were stolen.
  • An animal bite was reported on the 1500 block of Rose Avenue at 5:09 p.m.
  • Petty theft was reported on the 7300 block of Johnson Drive at 7:19 p.m.
  • Vehicular burglary was reported on the 4200 block of Rosewood Drive in the Ethan Allen parking lot at 9:42 p.m. Stolen items included a laptop, electronics and documents.

Monday, July 26 

  • Vehicular burglary was reported on the 7200 block of Johnson Drive at 3:49 p.m.
  • Vehicular burglary was reported on the 1400 block of Stoneridge Mall Road at 7:55 p.m.
