Police and Fire Beat: Robberies and Traffic Collisions Reported

A list of notable incidents from August 10 to August 16.

Sunday, Aug. 15

  • An automobile burglary was reported on the 4300 block of Valley Avenue at 12:19 a.m.
  • A traffic collision was reported on the intersection of Crestline Road and Valley Avenue at 6:57 p.m. between a vehicle and a bicyclist.

Saturday, Aug. 14

  • A bicycle theft was reported on the 3200 block of Touriga Drive at 7:37 p.m. 
  • Shoplifting was reported at Aeropastale on the 1300 block of Stoneridge Mall Road at 11:53 a.m.
  • A vehicle fire was reported on eastbound I-580 at 11:41 a.m.
  • A structure fire was reported on the 7000 block of Johnson Drive at 1:38 p.m. Callers reported seeing smoke coming from the vents. The smoke was isolated to a break room area and was possibly due to a malfunctioning heater and air conditioning unit.

Friday, Aug. 13

  • A commercial burglary was reported on the 2900 block of Ruby Hill Drive at 6:12 a.m.
  • A 41-year-old man was arrested for driving under the influence at 2:39 a.m.
  • A 44-year-old man was arrested for driving under the influence at 10:24 p.m.

Thursday, Aug. 12

  • Stolen Car: A 1999 Honda civic was stolen on the 4400 block of Hacienda Drive. The owner reported the stolen vehicle at 7:00 p.m. He told police that the car was parked in the morning. At around 5:30 p.m., the car was found missing. There is currently no witnesses or suspect information.
  • FedEx Robbery: Police arrested 23-year-old Jason Niusulu, of Hayward, in connection to an armed robbery that occurred Aug. 11. Niusulu is the second person arrested in connection to a holdup of a FedEx driver the previous day.
  • A traffic collision was reported I-680 southbound and N Bernal Avenue at 1:56 p.m.One vehicle crashed into the center divide. Only one vehicle was involved and there were minor injuries reported.
  • A traffic collision was reported on the Foothill Road ramp going into eastbound I-580 at 1:57 p.m.. A motorcycle was involved.
  • A traffic collision was reported on the Foothill Road ramp going into eastbound I-580 at 3:41 p.m.

Wednesday, Aug. 11

  • A robbery was reported on the 4000 block of Alvarado Street at 9:00 a.m. Patch is working to get more information on this incident.
  • FedEx Robbery: An armed robbery was reported on the 4300 block of Hacienda Drive at 10:57 a.m.  A FedEx driver said he was robbed at gunpoint while on a delivery route. The driver said four men wearing masks and hooded sweatshirts went up to the driver and ordered him to open the back of his FedEx truck. The men fled in a gold Buick sedan. That same night, police arrested 20-year-old Dominique Jerome Hamilton in connection to the robbery. Hamilton is a FedEx employee working at a facility in San Leandro.
  • A traffic collision was reported on the intersection of Hopyard Road and West Las Positas Boulevard at 10:29 a.m. There was a report of one person with arm injury.
  • A structure fire was reported on Acadia Court at 3:07 p.m. Neighbors smelled smoke coming from the attic. At least two fire engines were at the scene and the fire was immediately put out. There were no reported injuries.
  • A traffic collision was reported on the intersection of West Las Positas Boulevard and Hacienda Drive at 7:53 p.m.. A vehicle, possibly a suburban, had major damage. There were reported injuries and a third ambulance was called in.
