Police and Fire Logs: Authorities Deal with Crashes, DUIs, Other Roadway Problems

A list of notable incidents from Oct. 17 to Oct. 23.

Local authorities dealt with several problems on the roadway in the past week, including traffic crashes and DUI-related incidents. 

made DUI-related arrests in the early-morning hours of Saturday and Friday.  The responded to several traffic crashes throughout the week, including on Oct. 21 where a vehicle was caught between semi-trailer trucks. 

The previous day, firefighters responded to a crash in which they had to extricate a woman from an overturned car.

Also on Oct. 20, a gas leak forced the evacuation of workers from businesses and road closures near Koll Center. The leak was fixed later that day.

Police also reported separate arrests for spousal and elder abuse during the week.

Sunday, Oct. 23

  • A 22-year-old man was arrested at 1:30 a.m. on suspicion of public intoxication.
  • Vehicular burglary was reported at Motel 6 on the 5100 block of Hopyard Road at 7:48 a.m.
  • A traffic collision involving two vehicles was reported at the intersection of Foothill Road and Bernal Avenue at 11:22 a.m.
  • A traffic collision involving a vehicle striking a curb was reported at the intersection of Valley Avenue and Santa Rita Road at 2:10 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 22

  • A 41-year-old man was arrested at 2:33 a.m. on suspicion of driving under the influence.
  • Smoke was reported coming from an electric meter at a home on the 4600 block of Fall Court at 11:32 a.m.
  • A traffic collision involving several vehicles was reported on I-580 westbound near Hopyard Road at 4:46 p.m.

Friday, Oct. 21

  • A 44-year-old woman was arrested at 3:18 a.m. on suspicion of driving under the influence.
  • A traffic collision involving a vehicle and two semi-trailers was reported at the merge of I-580 eastbound and I-680 northbound at 6:05 a.m.
  • A 59-year-old man was arrested at 11:20 a.m. on suspicion of spousal abuse.
  • Theft was reported on the 4200 block of Hayford Court at 3:30 p.m.
  • A 23-year-old man was arrested at 10:58 p.m. on suspicion of public intoxication.

Thursday, Oct. 20

  • A traffic collision was reported on I-580 westbound near Tassajara Road at 1:48 a.m.
  • A traffic collision involving a vehicle spinning out was reported on I-680 northbound near Bernal Avenue at 8:43 a.m.  For photos click .
  • Businesses Evacuated After Gas Leak: Police closed Bernal Avenue between I-680 and Valley Avenue and evacuated people from nearby buildings after a gas line was ruptured by a construction crew. For more read . 

Wednesday, Oct. 19

  • A 53-year-old man was arrested at 12:57 a.m. on a warrant.
  • A traffic collision involving three vehicles was reported at the merge of I-580 eastbound and I-680 southbound at 6:47 a.m.
  • A traffic collision involving three vehicles was reported at the intersection of Bernal Avenue and Valley Avenue at 8:28 a.m.

Tuesday, Oct. 18

  • Vandalism was reported on the 5800 block of Laurel Creek Drive at 8:06 a.m.
  • A 49-year-old woman was arrested at 11:47 a.m. on suspicion of elder abuse.
  • An electrical fire was reported at a two-story home on the 400 block of Adams Way at 5:17 p.m.
  • A traffic collision involving two vehicles was reported on I-680 southbound near Sunol Boulevard at 11:09 p.m.

Monday, Oct. 17

  • A traffic collision involving four vehicles was reported at the intersection of Busch Road and Valley Avenue at 8:47 a.m.
  • Burglary was reported on the 3600 block of Andrews Drive at 10:29 a.m.
  • Vandalism was reported on the 5500 block of Springdale Avenue at 5:19 p.m.
  • Vehicular burglary was reported on the 900 block of Division Street at 5:56 p.m.
