Police Log: Another Dumpster Arson; Plus P-Town Makes International Headlines

Latest fire is at Valley View School, and other notable incidents March 10 to 16.

A Saturday dumpster fire at Valley View Elementary School is most likely arson-- the second such incident logged at a Pleasanton grade school in the past two weeks. Read the full story here.

In other news, Pleasanton's recent preschool debacle became worldwide fodder last week, with stories of the reported taped-up toddler replayed in the Washington Post, Fox News, the Massachusetts Lowell Sun, CafeMoms "Stir" blog, Examiner.com, a parenting blog in the Atlanta Journal Constitution and even London's Daily Mail, to name a few.

And Foothill High School was not the only regional campus facing threats of violence last week. Bomb threats were reported at two Tracy high schools, along with schools in Alameda and Fremont. Details below.

  • Car-break-in reported on the 800 block of Kottinger Drive 11:39 a.m.
  • Assault reported 9:52 p.m. on 4500 Pleasanton Avenue.
  • Sex offense reported 9:57 a.m. on the 100 block of South Gain Street; city not available.
  • Warrant arrest 8 a.m. on 5100 Hopyard Road.
  • Pleasanton man, 22, arrested 11:45 a.m. along 5700 Owens Drive for suspected use/influence of controlled substances and probation violations.
  • Oakland male, 32,  arrested 4:58 p.m. on fictitious-check charges after trying to cash a $1,900 check at a bank on 300 Main Street.
  • Male arrested for public intoxication 12:23 a.m. on 5300 Hopyard Road.

  • Pleasanton male, 46, arrested 1:52 p.m. for alleged public intoxication and probation violations on 400 Old Bernal Avenue.
  • Female arrested 1:27 a.m. on Greenwood and Raven roads for suspected possession of methamphetamine, paraphernalia, false prescription, driving on suspended license and giving false identification to police.
  • San Ramon male, 55, arrested for suspected public intoxication on 5100 Hopyard Road 5:46 p.m.

  • Car break-ins: 4:22 a.m. on 7500 Driftwood Way; 12:50 p.m. along 3400 Touriga Drive; 9:51 p.m. on 4800 Bernal Avenue; and 8:33 p.m. on 100 Valley Avenue (window smashed; $150 navigational unit and $50 purse stolen).
