Police Log: Bicyclist Killed; DUI Crash; 'Bambi' Rescue

Lots of repeat chaos on St. Mary Street, and more from June 2 to 8.

A female bicyclist was struck and killed Sunday afternoon on Foothill Road by an 18-year-old motorist, according to the Pleasanton Police Department. Few details are yet released -- the original news brief is here.

In other news, on Tuesday, a suspected drunken driver allegedly fled the scene of a three-car collision on Hopyard Road and was arrested a short time later in Dublin for suspected driving under the influence, causing an injury accident while under the influence, hit-and-run and driving on a suspended license, records state.

The motorist, a 52-year-old Hayward man, reportedly rear-ended a Mercedes at the Hopyard and Owens Drive intersection, sending that car into another vehicle. The man indicated to the Mercedes driver that they would pull over out of traffic's way, but instead, he left the scene, driving off toward Dublin, police records state.

The Mercedes driver was transported to a hospital for neck and back injuries. The owner of the third vehicle involved reported no injuries. The alleged hit-and-run driver, meanwhile, was apprehended shortly after the crash at 7 p.m. at a gas station on Dougherty Road and Dublin Boulevard, police said.

And on a more uplifting note ... an orphaned fawn was a big hit Sunday at police headquarters after it was brought in by an animal-control employee.

Worried citizens in the Ruby Hill area initially called police about the baby deer found alone and abandoned near a neighborhood lake.

The animal-rescue worker, responding to the call, wrapped the newborn in a blanket, placed it in a box and returned to the police station, where staff fawned over the fawn until it was picked up to be cared for by state wildlife workers.
