Police Looking for Truck Involved in Hit-and-Run Collision

Two of the drivers involved in the collision were seriously injured, according to police. Police are asking for witnesses to come forward.

Information provided by Livermore Police—

On January 6, 2014, at 6:24 a.m., the Livermore Police Department responded to an injury collision on State Route 84 (Vallecitos Road) just north of the main entrance to Ruby Hills.

A vehicle similar to a dark colored Toyota Tacoma pick-up collided with a black Honda Civic on northbound Vallecitos Road just north of Ruby Hills.

The right front bumper of the pick-up sideswiped the left rear of the Honda causing the driver of the Honda to lose control. The Honda slid sideways into oncoming traffic. A Jeep traveling in the southbound direction of Vallecitos Road struck the passenger side of the Honda causing serious injuries to both drivers.

The driver of the pick-up did not stop and continued northbound on Isabel Avenue.

The Livermore Police Department is seeking the community’s assistance in locating the driver of the pick-up truck and any possible witnesses to the collision. If anyone has information about this case, they are encouraged to call Officer Traci Rebiejo at (925) 580-9665.

So the Honda was at fault, since it was passing on the right...I see this ALL the time, and was just wondering how long it would be before one of these idiots caused an accident by doing this. Where the two lanes merge into one, there is always some moron, usually in some econobox like a Honda, trying to beat out other drivers to execute an illegal and unsafe pass. Sorry, but no sympathy here.

Except for the innocent Jeep driver, that sucks. That's exactly why these kinds of people who can't merge properly need to have the book thrown at them. Instead of looking for this truck, which is involved (as much a victim of the Honda as the Jeep) but obviously didn't cause the accident, LPD needs to just focus on the actual cause of the accident - the unsafe passing and subsequent collision caused by the Honda driver. Its one thing when being stupid and aggressive on the road leads only to injuries to yourself, but when your actions result in harm/loss to others, then they deserve to be held accountable. The driver of the truck probably left the scene out of panic. Perhaps they mistakenly believed they were going to get blamed for causing this accident. However now they are going to get charged with leaving the scene of an accident - if they are identified...and possibly the cops will try to hang this accident on them which is what it sounds like from the article. But if they remain unidentified they are going to have to pay for their own damages that the Honda caused. I guess they lose both ways. I hope they will do the right thing: get an attorney to defend their interests, and come forward.
