Police Nab Porch Package Thieves

The two suspects were caught by police after trying to flee the area

Two thieves were arrested yesterday after they were spotted by witnesses stealing packages off of the front porch of a Pleasanton home, according to Pleasanton Police officials.

The following information was released at 10:13 a.m. in a Pleasanton Police Nixle Alert Advisory:

Yesterday two thieves attempted to ruin the holidays for several families here in Pleasanton by taking packages from the front porch area of their homes. Officer Sheldon was able to catch up to the fleeing vehicle thanks to excellent witnesses who called PPD. The suspects were arrested and all property was returned to rightful owners.

This type of activity is all too common during the holidays. Please report suspicious activity right away. This can include vehicles following delivery trucks and unfamiliar people approaching doors in your neighborhood. If you're having packages delivered, try to be home or ask a trusted neighbor to pick it up as soon as possible after it's delivered.

In Pleasanton on Saturday evening, a resident's daughter was home alone and heard a pounding on the glass sliding door that leads to the back yard. The girl said she heard a sound like someone tried to open it. The resident said there were no cars in the driveway and expressed relief that her barking dogs may have helped to deter a crime. Police officials say this is a typical tactic of seasoned residential burglars.
