Submitted by the Pleasanton Police Department:

Chief Dave Spiller was proud to announce this morning that this year’s Pleasanton Police Department Professional Staff Member of the Year is Dispatch Supervisor Jackie Simon. A valued member of the Pleasanton Police Department since 2006, Ms. Simon began her career as a police dispatcher with the Union City Police Department in 1999.

A consummate team-player, Ms. Simon goes above and beyond in carrying out her daily duties, which makes for extraordinary customer service and a positive reflection on our department. She is motivated to achieve optimal results for every contact and maintains perspective of her role and responsibility to the community and to her co-workers. Ms. Simon is known for engaging collectively with others to identify and devise reasonable solutions. She has firmly established herself as a respected, approachable, and knowledgeable supervisor within our organization.

Officer Keith Batt is this year’s Pleasanton Police Department Police Officer of the Year. Officer Batt began working for the Pleasanton Police Department in April of 2001. He is a field training officer, a member of the department’s arson investigation team, force options team, and is a firearms instructor and armorer. Officer Batt has established himself as a leader in the Investigations Division, often providing insight and assistance to his peers.

During this past year, Officer Batt investigated several complicated cases, including two serious elder abuse cases. He was also the lead investigator on the found body (homicide) investigation from Dublin Canyon Road. During this investigation, Officer Batt did an excellent job of coordinating the investigation and also utilizing the multitude of recourses available. He worked closely with the Alameda County Crime Lab, a forensic pathologist, and sketch artist. Ultimately, the woman was identified and an arrest of the suspect was made by Stockton Police  for the homicide. Officer Batt has proven to be extremely reliable and is known for following through on what he says he will do.

Many thanks to Police/Animal Services. Next order of business is to educate residents not to allowRead More ducks to nest on their property that is not adjacent to natural waterways or canals - it may seem cute, but it's cruel when the mama duck loses babies to cats and storm drains.
