Subscribe, Customize Your Nixle Alerts from Pleasanton Police

The alerts can be sent to alert residents to emergencies and advisories in the community

Police are encouraging residents to customize the settings for Nixle Alerts sent out for emergencies, advisories and for community information.

In a Nixle alert on July 24, Pleasanton Police offer tips to residents to help customize their Nixle Alerts. If you are not already subscribed the the Nixle Alerts system, police encourage residents to sign up to receive the email and text alerts sent out to the community.

An example of how the alerts can work for residents can be seen in the Nixle Alert sent out to subscribers yesterday after a robbery had occurred at the Verizon Wireless store in Pleasanton.

Adjusting Your Nixle Settings: Message Types and Receiving Times

The Pleasanton Police Department is able to send three types of messages via Nixle: Emergency Alerts, Advisory (Traffic, Crime, Road Closure etc), and Community (Local City or Department News).

There are two ways to "subscribe" to the Pleasanton Police Department Nixle alerts and notification. In order to receive emergency alerts, you can text your zip code (94566 or 94588) to the law enforcement Nixle number of 888777 on your text capable cell phone. You will receive a confirmation text in response letting you know that you are set-up properly. This will work for any zip code so long as the local agency or county is participating in Nixle. You may incur text related charges but that is based upon your personal cellular plan. This type of enrollment limits your notifications to your cell phone only!

The more complete and informative way to subscribe to our Nixle page is to register on-line at http://local.nixle.com/pleasanton-police-department/, like most of you have done.

By subscribing via the web, you will be able to receive all messages from the Pleasanton Police Department. Once you subscribe to the Pleasanton Community Wire, there are settings that allow you to select things such as the time of day that you may be notified and also types of notifications you receive. (We suggest receiving notifications via text and email - consider adjusting notification times if you do not wish to get messages in the evening hours.)

"Settings" allows you to select the message types and method of delivery. The "Account" tab allows you to select the time of days notification is allowed to your phone.

By using Nixle, the Pleasanton Police Department adds another valuable tool that allows us to better communicate and share information with our community. Use of Nixle is in addition to conventional notifications, meetings, bulletins, Facebook, and other forms of communication. We look forward to sharing information with you.
