UPDATE: Arraignment Delayed in Physician Domestic Assault Case

Pleasanton ValleyCare obstetrician/gynecologist William H. Phillips was not arraigned and asked to return to court April 8.

A Pleasanton physician who was arrested last week on felony charges of domestic assault and criminal threats had his arraignment delayed Monday.

William H. Phillips, 58, an obstetrician/gynecologist with ValleyCare Physicians Associates, did not appear in court on Monday. His next court date is scheduled for April 8.

Phillips is not is custody after posting bail and is taking a leave of absence from practicing medicine, his lawyer John Noonan said.

Noonan said he was not yet familiar with any facts with the case.

Phillips, 58, was arrested at 2:53 p.m. Wednesday afternoon after police received a call of domestic violence from a residence in the Vintage Hills neighborhood.

According to the Medical Board of California, Phillips, whose full name is William Helton Phillips Jr., has a current license to practice. He is a 1983 graduate of the University of California Los Angeles School of Medicine and, as of the past 10 years, has no record of any criminal convictions nor of any medical disciplinary actions.
