UPDATE: BART Service Resumes Full Service for Commuters

An accident between a train and a pedestrian closed the Lake Merritt station, which is now reopened. The man has been taken to the hospital. BART says there may be residual delays.

From Bay City News:

BART service has resumed after a person was hit by a train at the
Lake Merritt station this afternoon, but passengers should still expect major
system-wide delays.

The Lake Merritt Station reopened and service resumed in both directions around 3:50 p.m., BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost said. However,

passengers should expect residual delays of 30 to 40 minutes.

The station was closed just after 2:50 p.m. when a Dublin/Pleasanton-bound train struck a person on the tracks as it approached Platform 1, Trost said.

The person, who was on the tracks for an unknown reason when the train pulled into the station, survived and was taken to a hospital.

"Police officers observed him walking and talking during the incident," Trost said.

Trains began traveling through the station on a single track around 3:20 p.m., and at 3:50 p.m. full service was restored.

Many thanks to Police/Animal Services. Next order of business is to educate residents not to allowRead More ducks to nest on their property that is not adjacent to natural waterways or canals - it may seem cute, but it's cruel when the mama duck loses babies to cats and storm drains.
