Orinda City Councilman Announces Bid for Assembly

Steve Glazer said he will be an advocate for fiscal responsibility and education in Assembly District 16.

Three-term Orinda City Councilman Steve Glazer, an adviser to Gov. Jerry Brown, has announced his bid for state Assembly for the District 16 seat, now held by Joan Buchanan, who terms out in 2014. Glazer said he will focus on fiscal responsibilty and a "champion" of public education.

Glazer has twice served as Orinda's mayor, and is a policy consultant to Gov. Brown.

His goal in state government, he said, will be to make it more accountable and more efficient.

“I want to continue the momentum for responsible fiscal management while enhancing support of our local schools and state universities,” Glazer said. “We need to eliminate roadblocks to economic revitalization and job creation and improve efforts to protect and enhance our environment."

Glazer, who 30 years ago developed the idea to putting photos of missing children on milk cartons, said the state's political system has been abducted by party extremists on both sides of the aisle.

“For too long, the legislative process has been a captive of the extremes of both political parties. We need to elect problem solvers who can bring disparate interests together to forge a common ground,” he said.

Glazer has operated his own small business since 1989, serving as a consultant to companies, associations and elected officials on public policy issues. He has been an active fundraiser for local schools and open space preservation.

Elected to the Orinda City Council in 2004, he has been re-elected twice.

Glazer is married to Melba Muscarolas, an AT&T executive. They have two daughters.

The best reason NOT to vote for Mr. Glazer is because he advised Mr. Jerry Brown. Get a real job stop leaching off the taxpayers.

So true Leorard! I'll bet he's for Agenda 21 also.

Glazer is a chameleon! If you look up politician in the dictionary you will see his face. He prioritizes based on popularity, the spot light and not what is important or difficult. The city of Orinda funded a substandard drainage project on El Toyonal several years ago which was a complete disaster. During heavy rains, Glazer was called on his cell multiple times and emailed, to date he has done nothing to fix this problem. He hasn't as much contacted the drainage company to force them to fix their disaster. When the rain subsided, he called at 8:30 at night to say he was traveling and never followed up on this ongoing problem that effects so many residents. While Orinda roads are in desperate need of repair, Orinda built penthouse offices for themselves that were excessive. This was not fiscally responsible and he is no problem solver. Successful school fundraisers have been on going and sponsored by parents for more that 3 decades. Glazer can't honestly take credit for the success here in Orinda. Keep in mind, Orinda is an affluent community with one high school and just one middle school. This community is not representative of the majority of California schools. Being friends with Jerry Brown cannot be the only qualification for the position of State Assembly Dist 16. This important position requires more than a smile and a handshake. The best reason NOT to vote for Mr. Glazer is because he is not qualified.
