UPDATE: Kathy Narum Likely Winner in Pleasanton City Council Vote-By-Mail Election

Kathy Narum appears to have won race, winning 39.6 percent of the vote. David Miller is in second with 28.6 percent of the vote.

Kathy Narum appears to be the winner in Pleasanton's City Council special election on Tuesday.

The former Pleasanton planning commissioner won 39.6 percent of the vote. David Miller is in second with 28.6 percent of the vote, Olivia Sanwong third (17.1 percent) and Mark Hamilton fourth (16.1 percent).

Narum has lived in Pleasanton for over 16 years and has served on a number of of community boards. Along with being a former planning commissioner, she also served as a parks and recreation commissioner.

"Over the years I’ve been involved in many civic and volunteer organizations because I care about our city and want to preserve our quality of life," Narum said on her campaign website. "I’m the kind of person who enjoys getting involved and can get things done."

There were 11,655 ballots cast and counted, a turnout of 27.76 percent in the vote-by-mail election, according to the Alameda County Registrar of Voters.

The top finisher of the four candidates — Olivia Sanwong, David Miller, Mark Hamilton and Kathy Narum — will fill the seat left vacant when Jerry Thorne was elected mayor in November.

The election was mail-in ballot only, with no polling places used for the election.

The Alameda County Registrar of Voters will begin to release unofficial results at 8 p.m.
