Rain May Wash Out Pleasanton's Holiday Festivities

Five days of heavy rains forecasted is threatening the annual Hometown Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting. In case of wet weather, residents can call the hotline established by the city.

According to city officials, the information line number is not staffed. Residents can call 925-931-5352. 

Even if the parade is canceled, the tree lighting may not be.

"Staff will be monitoring the weather throughout the day on Saturday. The hotline will be updated as early as 2:30 p.m. and then every hour throughout the day if necessary, or as the weather conditions change.

This event is planned by the Community Services Department and they make the determination about the parade. As you can see, staff will make every effort to monitor weather and do their best to avoid cancellation. Please note that the parade and tree lighting are being treated as separate events and while the parade may be canceled (based on weather and staff evaluation of weather conditions) it could be that the tree lighting will still take place and it could take place earlier if the parade is canceled. Anyone who wants the latest information should be directed to call the hotline.

If the parade is canceled there are no plans to reschedule this event. Although seldom, the parade has been canceled in the past for weather and the last time this occurred was approximately eight years ago."
