Supporters of Arizona Immigration Law Hold Rally in Pleasanton

Local members of the Pleasanton Tea Party and the Golden Gate Minutemen held a rally today in support of a controversial Arizona immigration law.

While opponents of a controversial Arizona law protested in other parts of the Bay Area, supporters of the law held a counter rally in Pleasanton.

The law, SB 1070, took into effect Thursday and essentially allows local law enforcement to enforce immigration law.

Members of the Pleasanton Tea Party and the Golden Gate Minutemen organized the gathering of about 15 people, a day after a federal judge issued an injunction blocking some key provisions of the law.

The rally participants in Pleasanton held signs and American flags at the overpass overlooking Interstate 580, near the Stoneridge mall and Dublin Boulevard.

"We're out here to support Arizona," said Steve Kemp, a member of the Golden Gate Minutemen in Fremont. "The Feds weren't doing anything, and we're sick of illegal immigrants who are taking our jobs and using social services."
