New Las Positas College President Named

Dr. Kevin Glen Walthers comes from the West Virginia Community and Technical College System

The Board of Trustees of the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District voted unanimously to name Kevin Glen Walthers as the President of Las Positas College in Livermore.

Dr. Walthers currently serves as the Vice Chancellor for Administration
for the West Virginia Community and Technical College System and the
West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. 

His duties include responsibility for the state’s financial aid program, which includes the Higher Education Grant Program and the PROMISE Scholarship.
Walthers also oversees the West Virginia Network for Educational Telecomputing, the state’s educational technology provider to K-12 schools, colleges, and universities.

“I am very excited about the future of Las Positas College under the leadership of Dr. Walthers,” Dr. Joel Kinnamon, District Chancellor, said in a press release.

“He is passionately committed to both the community college mission and to the students we serve.”

Prior to his time in West Virginia, Dr. Walthers served as Vice President for Finance and Administrative Services at the College of Eastern Utah. In this position, Dr. Walthers oversaw a significant portion of college operations including athletics, auxiliaries, facility management, and financial operations.

Dr. Walthers’s career as an educator began in Texas as a high school teacher.  He also served in policy roles with the Utah State Legislature and as a senior administrator with the Utah State Board of Regents.

Dr. Walthers earned his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy from the University of Utah, a Master of Educational Administration degree from Texas A&M University - Commerce, and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas at Austin.  He began his college education at Eastfield College in the Dallas County Community College District.

Dr. Walthers is expected to begin as President of Las Positas College on August 8, 2011 pending final settlement of his employment contract.
